Overview
SWISS-MODEL is a fully automated protein structure homology-modeling server designed to make protein modeling accessible to life science researchers worldwide. It leverages comparative modeling techniques to predict 3D structures of proteins based on the known structures of homologous proteins (templates). The server automatically searches for suitable templates, builds models, and assesses their quality. Recent updates include the integration of AlphaFoldDB structures as templates and an API for accessing OpenStructure actions. SWISS-MODEL is developed by the Computational Structural Biology Group at the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and the Biozentrum of the University of Basel and is an ELIXIR Core Data Resource. Users can submit protein sequences to the SWISS-MODEL server, and the system returns predicted 3D structures along with quality estimates, providing a valuable resource for structural biology research and drug discovery.
