Overview
WaniKani is a web application designed to teach users how to read Japanese by focusing on kanji and vocabulary acquisition. It leverages a Spaced Repetition System (SRS) to optimize learning and retention. The platform uses mnemonics to help users memorize radicals, kanji, and vocabulary words efficiently. Users progress through levels, learning new characters and words, and regularly reviewing learned items to reinforce memory. WaniKani structures learning by breaking down kanji into radicals, the building blocks for kanji, enabling users to create mnemonics for faster memorization. It offers over 2,000 kanji and 6,000 vocabulary words, carefully ordered to maximize learning efficiency. It aims to take users from knowing no kanji to reading native Japanese materials in a little over a year, making it suitable for self-learners and those looking to improve their reading skills.
